Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy in Kitchener-Waterloo
The 8-week group Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) group program in Waterloo integrates mindfulness meditation practices with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Participants learn to “stand back” and observe difficult thoughts and feelings. By becoming mindful of when negative thoughts and moods are present, they learn to respond skillfully instead of being “carried away” or “battling” with the emotion, thought or situation itself.
- Develop greater confidence and ease in coping with life’s difficulties
- Enjoy an increased sense of well-being and improved mood
- Be present for more positive experiences in your everyday life
The MBCT approach was originally developed for those recovered from a depressive episode and wanting to prevent relapse. Research demonstrates that:
- Relapse rates are cut in half
- MBCT is as effective as anti-depressant medication in preventing depression relapse
Mindfulness based approaches are now extensively researched and effectively applied to a wide range of issues including:
- Depression
- Stress, anxiety and panic
- Eating issues
- Developing self-compassion
